We are a fall family, and it got out of hand.

Some families do Christmas. We do fall. Every year we throw Kate a Pumpkin Everything Party for her birthday, which is not a nickname we invented for a website, it is genuinely what we call it, and it is exactly what it sounds like. Adam is the die-hard pumpkin coffee man, first cup of the season bought roughly the moment it appears on the board, and he will happily tell you which place does it best.

And September on LBI really is the best time of the year. The crowds thin out, the light goes gold in the afternoon, the water is still warm and the surf finally gets good. You get the island back. We spend the whole month outside in it, and most of it on other people’s porches, making them look like how it feels. The season runs right through to late October.

So when this turned into a business, it was less a plan than an extension of how we already spend the season. It spreads a bit of that joy around the neighborhood, it helps support our family, and it is honestly a lot of fun to do. Three good reasons, and we would struggle to rank them.

It started with photographs. Not a porch down the road, but images of displays somewhere else entirely: a front step with nothing on it but pumpkins, big to small, orange to cream to sage, stacked like someone meant it. Our reaction was just “how cool is that”, followed fairly quickly by the realization that nobody around here was doing it.

What made those photographs work was the restraint. Set one next to the porches you actually see in October, buried under hay bales, cornstalks, a wreath, three signs and a plastic scarecrow, and the difference is not that one has more on it. It is that on one of them you can tell what you are supposed to be looking at.

That is the whole philosophy. One material, chosen well and arranged with care, beats a truckload of everything. So we constrained ourselves on purpose: pumpkins are the only thing we place. No filler, no props, nothing to dilute it. The constraint is what makes the displays read as curated rather than decorated, and it means every dollar you spend goes into fruit you can see.

It is a rule about what we add, not about your porch. Plenty of our customers have mums by the door or a lantern on the rail, and those stay exactly where they are. We design around what is already yours. What we will not do is reach for a bale of hay because a display looks thin.

The design language came next: how sizes step down, how traditional orange carries heirloom color, how a composition holds an entry. It is why a ten-pumpkin stoop and a thirty-pumpkin staircase are recognizably the same brand of beautiful. Judgment applied consistently, not a formula.

Seasonal decorating is usually quoted like a mystery. An hourly rate, a materials line, a number that arrives after the work does. We do the opposite. Each display has one all-inclusive price, by size, and you see it before you book anything. Half holds your install week; the other half is due before your install day. Nothing gets added afterwards, and the displays page breaks each price down so you can see what it is made of.

What that price buys is judgment. Choosing thirty pumpkins that look like they belong together, and like they belong on your house, is the part of this work we are proudest of: the sizes, the colors, the way a slate blue sits against cedar shake. That is ours to get right, and it is why we don’t hand out a parts list. Here is how a booking runs.

We’re based in Manahawkin, and Manahawkin is our main market. Most of our porches are a few minutes from our own. Around it we serve the surrounding towns: Cedar Run, Beach Haven West, West Creek, Barnegat, Waretown, Tuckerton and Long Beach Island. From the first week of September to the end of October we’re picking pumpkins at dawn and on porches the rest of the day.
